Is patriotism(nationalism) an overrated quality?

What is patriotism anyway? To me its just a tool the ruling class uses to get people to risk their lives fighting wars for them. How many times do people in the military say they joined because they "love their country". Not saying theirs anything wrong with loving your country, but blind patriotism is a very dangerous thing.
